Dementia Cottage Experience

Building an enabling environment for older people and people with dementia requires vision, knowledge and commitment. The Dementia Centre provides a range of services to inform and support the planning of your new build or refurbishment:

Being inspired is the first step in the planning process!

Introducing The Dementia Cottage Experience

The Dementia Centre now provides a cottage design experience to help aged care, community and hospital organisations envisage an evidence based dementia design. The Dementia Cottage Experience will give you the opportunity to:

  • See the principles of dementia design in practice;
  • Ask questions on the environment and the translation into practice.

Conducted by our experienced Dementia Consultants, the 3 hour workshop will cover:

  • Overview of international evidenced based design and guiding principles
  • Overview of the HammondCare design story and model of care provided in the cottages
  • A guided tour of a dementia specific cottage
  • Q & A session

Why has the Dementia Centre and HammondCare developed this experience?

The Dementia Centre is frequently asked to conduct tours within a HammondCare dementia specific cottage. Whilst HammondCare and the Dementia Centre are proud of the cottages and are committed to promoting excellence in dementia care and design, tours can impact on the residents that live in these cottages. The residents’ wellbeing is our priority and tours are only conducted if an empty cottage can be made available.

What does the Dementia Cottage Experience involve?

The cottage tour workshops occur monthly and are limited to 16 people per group (minimum group size is 3 people).
