Connecting, engaging and communicating with music. A workshop for dementia care practitioners relating to people living with dementia.
Music speaks to the soul, it moves us. But this is not just about music – it’s the experience of expression, choice and belonging for people living with dementia. This workshop is all about challenging our culture of, and approach to music, engagement and connection. Music Engagement in Dementia Care is much more than using I-pods and creating playlists. Building on our experience in implementing Music Engagement Program in residential care, this one day interactive, hands on learning experience will reinvigorate participants with the endless opportunities music can provide for connection.
Join us to learn from evidence based research how to improve support for people living with dementia by understanding the role music can play in addressing experiences of pain, agitation, and anxiety to not only bring comfort, emotional support and a calming atmosphere but also to create enabling environments that encourage expression and creativity.
This workshop is suitable for managers, nursing staff, care workers, lifestyle coordinators – anyone who works with older people and people with dementia will take away invaluable learnings to embed engagement through music into existing models of care.
